  • You must also be a resident of the state, read and write English, and have no felony convictions

  • Notaries are given authority to perform notarial acts for seven years by the Maine Secretary of State.

Most states also require an embossing seal or ink stamp for documents to be officially deemed notarized. Maine is one of those states that requires the seal.
