North Carolina Notary Services
Notary publics are essential – if often unsung – cogs in the bureaucratic side of many professions. The chances or never needing a notary are slim to none.
That means a time will come when you need a notary public in North Carolina. This may be for the sale of property, an affidavit, or a variety of other reasons.
But what do notary publics do? And how do you know they’re qualified to help you?
The fact is that notary publics have many different duties, and they differ by state. So let’s explore what a North Carolina notary public can do for you.
North Carolina Mobile Notaries
The North Carolina Secretary of State or the Secretary’s designee is responsible for commissioning a Notary Public in North Carolina, but only after they meet these requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Reside legally in the U.S.
- Live or have a place of work in North Carolina
- Speak, read, and write English
- Earn a high school diploma or equivalent
- Pass a course
- Purchase and maintain a manual approved by the Secretary of State
In some cases (unless the notary is in a large county), a notary may also require the recommendation of an elected official. Once they’re commissioned, they can notarize documents in any county in North Carolina.request quote: North Carolina notary services
To apply for a commission, a person must submit an application of personal qualifications and an application fee. As long as they haven’t committed any disqualifying criminal or civil violations, they can proceed in the application process.
Once they’re verified, the applicant must take a course and pass it relating to notary public duties and responsibilities in North Carolina. If they pass, they can become a full-fledged notary.
Upon designation as a notary public, the commission lasts for four years. When notarizing any documents, the notary public must use an ink stamp or embosser.
A North Carolina notary can offer these services:
- Acknowledge signatures
- Administer oaths and affirmations
- Verify or prove the veracity of signatures
They can also notarize a document in a foreign language, however, the notarial certificate must be in English.
But there are a few things they can’t do. For instance, notary publics in North Carolina can’t certify copies as “true.” They also cannot notarize documents wherein the notary could have a direct or indirect financial interest in the document.
